Would it be any more useful (as a starter for ten) to list the authors/books then anyone who has read them as well may contribute comments or questions???
I think we ought to write about the books we have read. My favourite at the moment is "social construction of reality". I have read half of it and I have began to find out why things happen as they do in our organisation. The way top managers defend their stance is quite a good illustration. It also has quite good explanations for the way we do things and how we objectify phenomenas so as to make them routine events in our own reality.
Ace Garp knows! |;-) Berger, p and Luckman, T; The social construction of reality, a treatise in the sociology of knowledge; 1966 , The Penguin Books Ltd, London. Regarding my previous comment, I should not have been so deterministic for perhaps my findings are not as real as I believe they are or perhaps they do not reflect a true reality at all but just a justification of what I should do next. The search for knowledge is difficult specially when your thinking is tainted with prejudices of events in the past. The historic baggage we carry, considering that some of us do not forget easily bad and/or good experiences, is difficult to unload.
About Knowledge and from the same book page 95 Typology of specialists "While the specialists are defined as individuals who know their specialities, every one must know who the specialists are in case their specialities are needed. The man in the street is not expected to know the intricacies of the magic of inducing fertility or casting evil spells. What he must know, however, is which magicians to call upon if the need for these services arises." So is this iwhy we come to university or is there other motives?
caracas, in reply to your question, I consulted your friend Paulo Freire who said "at a certain point in their existential experience the oppressed feel an irresistable attraction towards the oppressor and his way of life"
This makes at least 3 people contributing. I would have contributed earlier but I've been acquiring some (very basic) blogging skills. Do we all carry on adding comments here, or do other topics get started up from time to time?

Hi Richard,
A good update to the site, although a rather cynical first post, I suspect ;-).
I like the suggestion from caracas_made, however I would like a little more info, author, library reference, where you work, etc.
I would not insult by replying that your reality may not exist within mine as it wouldn't be constructive.
Do you have an example of their defence? It may be that you are not aware of the strategy they are following and as such you do not agree.
In what way do you objectify phenomena? Can you provide examples of the explanations?

Or am I projecting my experiences onto you?

The content is up to you all. The blog is intended to keep us all discussing issues not matter what. Has any one got any comments ref our Diary
Where is your diary? or is this only open for members of your group?
It does feel rather lonely in here (a tad like the lessons you referred to in your original post Richard).
Also this would appear to have gone "off-topic"
I believe we continue posting until one of the two original contributors post up a different subject.
